You’ve probably heard of Health Risk Assessments, but what about Mental Health Risk Assessments? I’ve noticed that several providers are moving more toward offering employers the ability to focus on preventative well-being for a person’s mental health with mental health risk assessments.
This change in focus from physical to mental isn’t surprising – as noted above, although chronic pain and illness are often related to a person’s physical health, this can have a significant impact on their mental well-being. To put this into numbers, a recent report found that 30% of long-term disability claims were related to mental health issues!
A mental health risk assessment can help employers take a pulse and understand how their employees are doing. It provides a proactive and preventative approach to identifying opportunities, risks, and strengths within the organization and can be an essential tool for employers to build a mental health strategy in the workplace.
This type of assessment is typically completed through focus groups to gather qualitative data on perceptions and feelings around psychological safety in the workplace, work/life balance, stress, and more.
